Manage

Unfortunately there are times when you will need to formally manage an employee’s performance at work, or deal with more serious issues that have been raised. It is important to deal with these issues head on and quickly, so they don’t affect your business in the longer term. There are a number of ways that someone might not be doing their job in the way that you expect them to; they may have broken your company’s rules, policies or procedures. If this is major, this will often be referred to as gross misconduct. Or they may be poorly performing on a regular basis or not be capable of carrying out their job role. You may have formal issues raised to you about colleagues’ behaviours which could include bullying, harassment and discrimination. As an employer you have a legal obligation to take all reasonable steps to prevent bullying, harassment and discrimination from happening in your workplace, and if they do arise you need to deal with these issues quickly.
